«Everything at a glance with one click» – Smile launches online tool for brokers & partners

Smile offers digital insurance solutions. A high level of customer satisfaction is as important to them as it is to us; therefore, they also place great importance on a user-friendly web interface for their online offerings.

In order to create an easy-to-use interface for Smile to display and edit tabular data, we chose the web application framework Vaadin. Vaadin’s Grid component is scalable, extensible and would also be mobile-friendly if required. The main arguments in favour of the framework for the partner tool are the integration into the existing architecture and the security aspect.

With the partner tool, Smile’s brokers and partners now have access to all information of their Smile customers. They can use it to report claims, calculate offers, make exports and much more.

Smile launches the «Drive Coach» and rewards all those who drive safely

Smile is the first Swiss insurance company to launch the «Drive Coach» for car insurance customers. The gamification-based service is intended to ensure greater safety in road traffic and reward adapted driving with cashback.

The Swiss insurance company Smile wants to ensure more safety in road traffic with its «Drive Coach». Smile no longer only provides protection in the event of a claim, but is also available to customers anytime and anywhere. Safe driving pays off twice over. Because those who drive safely receive a reward from their «coach» in the form of cashback.

Mobile First

The Drive Coach was implemented by mp technology as an extension of the Smile app. Unlike other solutions, no additional hardware is required in the car. Similar to fitness apps, the «Drive Coach» uses the smartphone’s sensor technology and numerous functions to detect, among other things, heavy braking and acceleration, increased speed and distraction. The driver is rewarded directly via the app. «With our unique solution, our customers literally have their safety in their own hands anytime and anywhere.» said Pierangelo Campopiano, CEO of Smile.

Smile, known for fair premiums, best service and 100% online, takes another step as a digital innovation leader in Switzerland with its Drive Coach.

Last year, the insurtech declared itself the «Netflix of insurances» regarding its new subscription model with monthly cancellation periods and payment by credit card. With the new Coach, Smile wants to create added value in the area of security and prevention. This new offering will continuously be developed in the future. «We want to help our customers make their everyday life safer in a simple way. Anytime, anywhere…», explains Campopiano and adds: «… and of course the whole thing has to be fun.»

Winner of the Best of Swiss App Awards

The effort has paid off: the Smile App we developed wins the Gold Award in the category «Business Impact» and the Silver Award in the category «Design» at the Best of Swiss Apps Award on 6 November 2019.

CRESTA Map Viewer

PERILS AG releases a new version of the CRESTA zones for the insurance industry.
The new CRESTA 2019 zones cover 137 countries with 4’901 “low-resolution” and 242’172 “high-resolution” CRESTA zones.

The zones were released on 21 October 2019 with a completely redesigned website and the CRESTA Map Viewer developed by mp technology. The CRESTA Map Viewer is a state of the art GIS tool based on Java, the open source map server solution “GeoServer” and the Open Streetmap based maps from Mapbox.

Insurance as easy as Netflix

Smile is the first Swiss insurance company to abolish the cancellation period without additional costs and now relies on a simple app with monthly subscription.
mp technology is implementing a new digital insurance platform for Smile with subscription and payment functionality together with a Smile customer app for claims and contract management. Switzerland’s largest direct insurance company is thus consistently continuing to implement its stronger differentiation from traditional insurance companies.

Expensive premiums and long contract terms are common in the Swiss insurance market. The Swiss InsurTech company Smile has therefore decided to develop a simpler solution for the customer. In addition to fair premiums and a digital-only solution, Smile is now eliminating the cancellation period. What has long been standard for Netflix, Spotify & Co. should now also apply to insurance: A top service with absolute flexibility. In addition to a monthly payment option, this also includes a monthly cancellation right.

Smile is also launching its own app. Customers can use it to conveniently manage their contract documents and claims online. Customer support is also fully integrated into the app. In the medium term, additional services are expected to further increase the number of customer interactions. «Our goal is to retain customers with Smile through excellent service, not with complicated contract clauses,» explains Pierangelo Campopiano, CEO of Smile.
